Renault-Nissan India, the Indian arm of the global alliance between French automaker Renault and Japanese car manufacturer Nissan plans to expand its production capacity at its Oragadam manufacturing facility near Chennai.

The joint venture will increase the production capacity from the current 4,00,000 units annually to 5,00,000 units annually with the aim of garnering a 15 percent market share in the Indian auto industry.

According to Mr. Toru Hasegawa, corporate vice-president (Africa, West Asia and India) Nissan, the carmaker is planning to set up a new production line which will increase the capacity to 6,00,000 units annually.

The capacity expansion will also support the launch of the new Datsun brand in India slated to hit the Indian car market in early 2014.

The alliance also targets a 5 percent share in the Indian car market by the end of the year 2013.
