Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has achieved the milestone figure of selling 25,00,000 of the Alto small car in the Indian car market. The Alto has become the second product by Maruti Suzuki to have achieved this figure, after Maruti 800.
Apart from the domestic sales of the Alto in India, the car model is also being exported to various global markets by the carmaker. The current export figure total stands at 2,85,000 units.
The Alto car model was launched by Maruti Suzuki in India in the year 2000 with an 800cc petrol engine. A 1.1 liter petrol engine was also launched in the Alto in the year 2001 which was discontinued in 2004. The carmaker introduced a new three cylinder 1.0 liter engine in the new car model Alto K10 in 2010.
According to speculations, the automaker is also working on launching a facelift of the Alto 800.
