It is believed that between 1,000 and 3,000 workers will be losing their jobs. The falling demand for automobiles due to the economic slowdown has resulted in production cuts and layoffs in a number of auto companies over the past few weeks, Maruti being one of them. A company spokesperson said that the layoff of temporary staff was routine for all auto companies. There have been production cuts at Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti, Hyundai and Hero Honda.
