Honda Cars India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda is planning to set up a third plant in India in the state of Gujarat. The Japanese automaker is looking at making India a production and export hub for its car models across the globe with the new production facility.

Currently, the carmaker has an installed production capacity of 2,40,000 units across two production plants, one in Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) and the other in Tapukara (Rajasthan). The carmaker has initiated land acquisition for the setting up of the plant which is at a preliminary stage, stated Mr. Jnaneswar Sen Senior Vice President (Marketing & Sales) Honda Cars India.

A second shift of production operations is also being planned to be added at the carmaker’s Tapukara plant from the month of November 2014 to meet the demand for the volume selling sedans, namely the City and the Amaze compact sedan.
