Tata Motors will be producing the initial few batches of the Nano at its Pantnagar facility in Uttarakhand to speed up the launch of the much-talked-about small car. The interim arrangement has been worked out in view of the fact that the company’s new plant at Sanand, Gujarat may take more than an year to be operational. According to company officials, the first Nano is expected to roll out from Pantnagar between January and March 2009. The downside is that the number of Nanos produced under this arrangement will be far lower than was earlier projected. Larger numbers will be produced once the plant at Sanand is operational.
