A number of Tata Nano customers in Punjab are cancelling their bookings for the car because of the long waiting period. Even those who have been selected for delivery are cancelling bookings, not willing to wait for the car for months. A single dealer in Ludhiana reported 10 cancellations, while a dealer in Chandigarh said that 6 customers had cancelled their bookings for the Nano. Among the first 1 lakh customers selected for delivery, there are many who are scheduled to get their cars in the latter half of 2010. Also, a good percentage of the remaining applicants, whose names did not figure in the first 100,000, may not retain their bookings. Tata Motors received more than 2 lakh bookings for the Nano after it was launched in March 2009.
