Tata Motors, the Indian automobile manufacturer has reduced its workforce at the Pantnagar production facility in order to cut down on costs. The automaker has been affected by the slowdown in the Indian auto industry and has witnessed a decline of 29.96 percent in the month of July 2013.

The Pantnagar production plant produces the best-seller light truck Ace and had a worker-strength of 5,838 people before the reduction in workers by the company. The current headcount rests at 4,630 people as the workforce after reduction of 1,208 workers.

According to a company spokesperson, the carmaker has been prudent in manpower planning and has done some adjustments in temporary resources requirement.

While the overall employee costs of the Indian auto major rose 5.4 percent, the reduction in workforce is seen as a step taken to contain the increasing costs.
