The Renault Duster compact SUV launched in July 2012 has become the largest selling sports utility vehicle in India. The compact SUV has overtaken the Scorpio SUV by Mahindra & Mahindra in terms of sales. The sales of the SUV continue to grow despite the slowdown in the Indian automobile industry.
In the utility vehicle segment also, the Duster has become the second largest selling vehicle after Mahindra’s Bolero. Renault India sold a total of 5,362 units in the month of April 2013 surpassing Maruti Suzuki Ertiga’s sales of 5,168 units. Mahindra’s Bolero leads the segment with sale of 9,766 units in April 2013.
Renault India expects to maintain the sales momentum of the Duster in the coming months despite increasing competition in the UV segment in India. The company states that the new entrants in the segment will further help the segment expand and make room for more sales.
