Volvo India, the Indian subsidiary of the Swedish carmaker Volvo is exploring options to expand its operations by setting up an assembly plant in India. Currently, all car products by the automaker are imported through the CBU route.

The Swedish carmaker may choose an existing facility for its assembly plans through partnership with existing players in the industry. According to peculations, the carmaker may partner with Volvo AB in India which shares only the name and logo with Volvo Cars.

By the expanding operations in India, the automobile manufacturer expects to compete with stronger players in the Indian car industry such as BWM, Mercedes Benz and Audi. The carmaker is also likely to launch the new car model V40 Cross Country in India in the month of April 2013.
