Volvo Car India introduces ‘Road Traffic Information’ system

Luxury carmaker, Volvo Car India introduced the Road Traffic Information (RTI) system. The navigation system facilitates travel to predetermined destinations and through unfamiliar traffic environments, ensuring a hassle free travel experience.

Available at an additional cost of Rs. 1.5 Lakh, the memory card based system is fully integrated into a Volvo Car and can be easily controlled from the steering wheel. The crystal-clear 6.5 inch widescreen display is recessed into the upper face of the instrument panel, from where it pops up at the touch of a button.

Commenting on this exciting new feature, Mr. Paul de Voijs, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said, “The RTI is an important infotainment unit in Volvo Cars globally and we are very happy to introduce it in India as well. The user friendly system will take the worry out of driving by helping customers navigate through unknown routes, everyday traffic disruptions or even finding their way to a tourist destination in a new city. In short, it will be the dependable guide for Volvo customers on Indian roads.

The system functions basis the information stored on a hard disk in the car. The car then communicates with the satellite system to guide the driver to the defined destination. Additionally, a female voice provides driving instructions in adequate time before each new manoeuvre.

A real-time demo mode helps familiarise you with the navigation system through a simulated trip when the car is stationary. Street addresses aside, it is also possible to choose from a long list of tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants and Volvo Car dealers. Currently the system has 11 Indian city maps uploaded and these maps will be updated bi-annually. The next upgrade with 35 more city maps is due in September 2008.
