Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors has reported a decline of 17.5 percent in its global sales for the month of May 2013. While the carmaker witnessed an increase in the sales of its luxury brands Jaguar Land Rover, the decline in passenger vehicle sales and commercial vehicle sales pulled down the overall sales.

The passenger car sales for May 2013 stood at 43,142 units which were 15.5 percent lower than the sales in May 2012. The Jaguar Land Rover luxury car brand sold a total of 31,210 units in the month of May 2013 which was an increase of 3.7 percent over the sales in the same month in 2012.

The larger contributor to the increment in sales of the Jaguar Land Rover was Jaguar, sales of which grew by 63 percent selling 7,061 units in May 2013. Land Rover sales on the other hand fell by 6 percent in the month.
