Skoda India, the Indian subsidiary of the Czech carmaker Skoda has announced its decision to stop the production of the Fabia premium hatchback in response to low sales. The hatchback recorded the lowest sales in 2012-13 fiscal selling 3,343 units, the lowest in 5 years since 2009.

The car model sold 115 units in the month of April 2013. The Czech carmaker will produce another 2,200 units of the Fabia hatchback by August 31, before finally shutting down the production of the premium car model.

According to a Skoda spokesperson, the carmaker is in the process of strengthening its presence in India by focusing on the sedan segment as part of which, it will be launching the new Octavia car model in the festival season in 2013.
