Bangalore based Reva Electric Car Company, is in the process of expanding its manufacturing facility. The new unit being added will have a production capacity of 30,000 cars per year, as against the plant’s current 6,000 unit capacity. It will be operational by the end of the year 2009. The company plans to bring out the next generation Reva from this plant.
RECC’s most recently developed version of the Reva, the Reva L-ion, is powered by lithium ion batteries and can run up to 200 km on one charge. It will be formally launched in the second half of this year. The current Reva, which is a two-seater, runs only 80 km on one charge. It costs Rs. 2.99 lakh in Delhi (on-road), after discount. In future, the company plans to launch bigger cars. It is also conceptualizing a 13-seater mini bus.
