Maruti Swift hatchback by Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer has achieved the milestone sales mark of 10,00,000 units since its launch in the year 2005. The hatchback has managed to cross the milestone in the time period of slightly more than eight years.
The time taken for the hatchback to cross the sales mark is reportedly less than the time taken by cheaper and smaller cars to achieve this figure. The Japanese carmaker has sold a total of 1,08,619 units in the April – October 2013 period, an increase of 18 percent over the sales for the same period in 2012.
According to the carmaker, the Swift hatchback has exceeded its sales expectations since its launch. The targeted monthly sales for the hatchback at the time of launch were 5,000 units, stated Mr. Mayank Pareek Chief Operating Officer (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India.
With approximately 2,00,000 annual unit sales, the Swift has become the second largest selling car in India after the Alto small car by Maruti Suzuki. A diesel engine option and competitive pricing of the hatchback have enabled healthy sales increment year on year.
