Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is planning to launch Suzuki’s hatchback, the Splash, as the Ritz in India. The company is reportedly in the process of ascertaining that the name ‘Ritz’ has not been taken by any other car company. The Ritz will probably be launched in mid-2009 and will be available in a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel version. Likely to be priced between Rs. 4 and 5 lakh, it will be placed slightly below the Swift, and will come with wider tracks and a high roofline. While the Splash has replaced Suzuki’s Wagon-R in the west, it is unlikely that the company will do away with the Wagon-R in India, it being a hugely successful car here.
