Indian carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra has launched its first SsangYong car model SUV Rexton in India on October 17, 2012 with a price tag of Rs 17,67,000. The new SUV will be assembled at the company’s facility in Chakan new Pune, Maharashtra.
The SUV Rexton is already being sold in about 66 car markets across the globe. Ssangyong, the South Korean auto manufacturer owned by Mahindra & Mahindra, targets India to be its second largest export market with the help of Mahindra’s strong presence in India’s SUV sector.
Ssangyong currently targets emerging car markets such as Russia and South Africa for its luxury SUVs while it already has Europe and Latin America as its largest export destinations.
The SUV segment in India is in a stage of expansion with a number of new launches such as the Duster by Renault launched in June 2012 and the EcoSport by Ford due for a launch in 2013. The automaker Ssangyong sees huge potential in the Indian SUV segment.
