General Motors (GM) India, the Indian arm of the American automobile major General Motors has announced a recall for the Chevrolet Tavera multi-purpose vehicle. The carmaker is recalling 1,14,000 units of the MPV manufactured between the years 2005 to 2013.
According to a statement by the company, it is a voluntary recall for the Tavera BS3 and BS4 due to emissions and specification issues and the car models will be repaired at company dealerships without any charge to the car owners. The carmaker has also clarified that the issue is not safety related.
The American automaker has identified a solution to the issues and is awaiting regulatory approvals in order to proceed with the recall and resume the production of the car model which has been on halt since June 4, 2013 in case of the Tavera BS3 and July 2, 2013 in case of the Tavera BS4.
The carmaker had also halted the production of the diesel versions of the Sail hatchback and sedan models, which will be resumed by the end of July 2013. The production of the Tavera MPV will be commenced by the end of August 2013.
