American car manufacturer Ford’s India arm, Ford India has ventured into an agreement with the Ennore Port in Chennai for its export operations from the port. Union Shipping Minister Mr. G K Vasan was witness to the agreement between Mr. M A Baskarachar Chairman and Managing Director Ennore Port and Mr. Tom Chackalackal Executive Director (Manufacturing) Ford India.

The Ennore Port has invested Rs 140 crore in order to develop a general cargo-cum-car terminal which includes the biggest car parking yard in India spread across 35 acres of area. The car parking is capable of holding a total of 10,000 cars at a time.

Mr. Chacklackal stated that the agreement is part of the carmaker’s initiative for its export operations. The port caters to many other carmakers in India such as Toyota, Honda Cars India and Ashok Leyland. The port offers the 10 year agreement for auto exports at a discount of 5-30 percent with an aim to encourage exports.
