Ford India, the Indian arm of the American automobile manufacturer Ford has cancelled existing bookings for the EcoSport compact sports utility vehicle in India. The decision by the carmaker comes when the delivery time for the car model has stretched up to eight months and new bookings have already been closed.

Ford dealers are reportedly asking their customers to cancel their bookings or transfer their bookings to another Ford car model. The bookings for eight out ten variants of the EcoSport had been closed in the month of August 2013 as the demand witnessed for the car was much higher than the supply. Currently, only the diesel version of the car model is available for booking and the customers are being formally asked to buy other car models such as Ford Figo hatchback.

The American automobile maker has been unable to ramp up production of the EcoSport in India due to low supply of auto parts from component manufacturers.
