In compliance with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ ‘voluntary labeling programme’, announced in September 2008, all car companies will have to disclose their mileage details by April 1, 2009. The first company to do the same was Maruti Suzuki, which displayed the fuel economy of all its models on December 31, 2008. Tata Motors was quick to follow, having displayed its fuel economy details at its dealerships since early January this year. Fiat, too, will be doing this starting from February.
