BMW India, the Indian arm of the luxury automobile manufacturer BMW has commenced the assembly of the Mini luxury car brand at its Chennai facility. The decision has been taken by the German carmaker in order to cut down on import costs.
BMW India had earlier introduced the Mini car brand range in India as a completely built unit and opened dealerships in the cities of Delhi and Mumbai. However, after the commencement of local assembly of the luxury car range in India, the automaker is in the process of expanding its dealership network.
Currently, the Mini car range is being sold by a limited number of BMW dealers. In order to increase the number of Mini dealerships, the car manufacturer will make more of its BMW dealers as Mini dealers.
