Czech auto company Skoda launched its much-awaited compact SUV, the Yeti, in India this week. The Yeti will be brought to India as a Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) unit from Europe, and will be available in two variants, priced at Rs 15.40 lakh and Rs 16.62 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Skoda India Board Member and Director, Mr Thomas Kuehl, told mediapersons that the company had already received 100 bookings for the new SUV, and that it was hoping to sell at least 500 units every month. He also said that a new diesel version of the vehicle would be introduced in 2011 at a relatively lower price.
The company’s other product plans include an entry-level sedan, which will be launched in 2011, and a compact car to be developed with Maruti Suzuki’s help, which will be launched in 2012. Mr Kuehl said that the recent launch of the new Fabia had been a big success, with the car’s sales going up from 800 units to 2,500 units straight after the launch. By the end of 2011, the company will have 120 dealerships across India.
