Car companies Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and Skoda India have successfully managed to battle the slowdown in the auto industry. Hyundai registered a sales growth of 49 per cent in 2008 while Skoda reported a 28 per cent growth, over sales in 2007. Skoda, to a large extent, owes its increased sales to the popularity of the Skoda Fabia, launched in January 2008. Hyundai too rode on the success of its much loved hatchbacks the Santro and the i10. It also benefited from the various price cuts and customer-friendly schemes it launched periodically.
