Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian arm of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota is currently reported to be planning a new sedan launch for the Indian car market.
The carmaker is expected to be targeting the space between the Toyota Etios and the Toyota Corolla Altis with the aim of competing with the likes of the City by Honda, the Verna by Hyundai and upcoming SX4 replacement by Maruti Suzuki, namely the Maruti Ciaz.
The automaker expects the planned mid-size sedan to help it gain a better grip in the Indian auto market. However, the carmaker is yet to choose a platform for the car model and investment into a new platform may not be feasible at this time. The existing Etios platform may be used to reduce costs while offering the sedan with both diesel and petrol options to attract buyers.
