Tata Motors is planning to launch the automatic transmission variant of its Aria in India nearing the end of 2012. The Aria automatic is in the testing stage currently and will compete with the automatic variants of the Mahindra Scorpio, the Chevrolet Captiva and the Ford Endeavour. The car is expected to about Rs. 1,00,000 costlier than the manual transmission variant. Thus, the 4×4 Aria AT variant will be priced at around Rs. 16,84,000.

The company expects the automatic transmission to enable short distance driving within the city more comfortable. A six speed automatic transmission is likely to be used for the Aria by Tata Motors. The top end variant of the Tata Aria Automatic (AT) will include various safety features such as Electronic Stability Programme, Antibrake Locking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and traction control along with six airbags, cruise control, a collapsible steering column and side intrusion beams.

The steering wheel will be mounted with crusie control switches and bluetooth and audio controls. Other features would include darkness sensing head lamps, rain sensing wipers and reverse camera.
