Tata Motors this week launched an upgraded version of its utility vehicle, the Tata Sumo Grande. The Grande MK II is available in three variants, priced between Rs 6.43 lakh and Rs 7.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is compliant with the Bharat Stage III emission norms. It is approximately Rs 25,000 cheaper than its older version. However, the company will push up its prices when it is upgraded to comply with BS IV norms.
Mr Rajiv Dube, the head of Tata Motors’ passenger car division, told mediapersons that the company wanted to increase its utility vehicle sales by 1,000 units a month, which the new version of the Sumo would help it accomplish. He added that the vehicle was targeted towards large families that wanted the looks of an SUV and the comfort of an MPV. The changes in the vehicle include a new grille and side rails, and redesigned interiors. It also comes with improved suspension, handling and steering.
