Renault India is in the process of developing a car model through a global project which will be priced in the under Rs. 4,00,000 segment in India. According to Mr. Marc Nassif Managing Director Renault India, the company would soon be divulging the details of the global project. He added that about 50 percent of the cars in the Indian car market were in the price segment of Rs. 2,00,000 to Rs. 4,00,000. However, Renault does not have a car model in this segment and is now planning to enter it.
According to Mr. Nassif, the existing platform being used at the Renault-Nissan facility near Chennai can’t be used for the new car model being developed and a new platform is required. A new platform at the facility, he said, would be shared with Nissan as part of the global venture with it to share technologies and components for engines, platforms and transmission.
The Renault-Nissan manufacturing facility currently has a capacity to produce 2,00,000 units.
