Maruti to launch dual-fuel engines for existing models

    carsBy carsDecember 14, 2009Updated:July 11, 20262 Comments2 Mins Read

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) will be introducing dual-fuel engines for several of its existing models in the country, within a month. The new engines will allow car owners to use both compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrol to power their vehicles. Maruti is using a new technology to inject CNG in these engines from multiple points, which will improve the given vehicle’s power and pick-up. This is usually lacking in CNG-powered cars. The multiple point fuel injection (MPFI) technology is currently used only in petrol engines.

Maruti is already using dual-fuel engines in the WagonR and the Omni Duo, which have LPG as the second fuel option. It had also introduced CNG kits for the Alto in early 2009. Mr Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager for Marketing at Maruti, said that the company was exploring new options for all its products. The new dual-fuel engines will also be BS IV compliant.
