India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki plans the launch of its new Alto small car in November 2012 and expects to change the diesel car mindset which has taken root in the Indian auto industry since the year 2011. The car is also expected to be the first small car launch in the Indian market in the year 2012 after the Renault Pulse.
The new Alto small car launch is aimed at reclaiming the lost share in the small car segment due to slowdown in the segment. According to the company sources, the new 800cc car will have the same platform as the existing Alto but will have a revamped appearance with changes such as new head lights and rear lamps, new and sturdier bumpers and fresh interiors.
The new car model is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current base model of the Alto. The company plans on changing the anti-petrol mindset with this car launch and expand its share in the small car segment which is currently at 22.7 percent.
