Indian auto major Maruti Suzuki is now offering a discount of Rs 3,00,000 on its Kizashi premium sedan in order to fight the falling sales of the car model. The company expects the discount to help increase its market share in the premium sedan segment.
The price which includes 105 percent import duty on the completely built unit import of the sedan has been a deferring factor in its sales in the Indian domestic car market. The largest car manufacturer in India is also considering setting up a local assembly facility for the sedan with the aim of reducing its price in India.
The Kizashi sedan which is priced at Rs 17,12,000 for the manual variant witnessed a fall in sales of 85 percent in the period of April to August in the 2012-13 fiscal. The company sold 23 units of the premium sedan in the period in comparison to 157 units sold in the same period in 2011-12 fiscal.
Other car manufacturers such as Honda, Skoda, Nissan and Hyundai hold a higher market share in the premium sedan segment with car models such as the Accord, the Superb, the Teana and the Sonata respectively.
