India’s largest passenger car company, Maruti Suzuki, has reached yet another milestone by selling 100,000 units of the Maruti DZire within 18 months of its launch. A company spokesperson announced last week that MSIL had achieved a cumulative sale of one lakh units of the DZire. The entry-level sedan was launched in March 2008, with both petrol and diesel engine options. Maruti’s other recent achievements include the cumulative production of 80 lakh units for all its models, 100,000 KB-Series engines, and 100,000 units of the A-Star. The DZire, an A-3 segment car, competes with the Tata Indigo, the Ford Fusion and the Hyundai Accent. It has been immensely successful ever since it was launched. Maruti had to scale up the car’s production from 4,000 units a month, to 7,000 units to meet its growing demand, despite which it continues to have a long waiting period (up to four months).
