Mahindra Scorpio still best selling SUV

    Mahindra Scorpio 2013

The Mahindra Scorpio has been around since 2002 and it has not gotten stale in the Indian market yet. Within the Rs 10-12 lakh SUV segment, the Mahindra is by far the best selling SUV in the country, and it just a quick look at the sales figures will tell you how it outsells other hotter and newer SUVs. Even thought the Scorpio has been around for over 10 years, over the last 3 months, Indian consumers have been more drawn to the Scorpio than any other SUV in the market. 4345 units of the Scorpio were sold in September, while the Duster, which is a new entrant in the market and bears a foreign badge within the same price segment only managed to sell 3,973 units. In fact, the Scorpio sold more units than the Duster in August and in July.

Since its launch, the Scorpio has had only minor cosmetic changes but has had some good engine updates, and because of that the model has always been a little fresh, and it has also reached a sales landmark of 400,000 units, just last month. The Scorpio was also the first Indian SUV to be offered with an automatic transmission.  Newer technology and better features such as micro-hybrid technology, start-stop and its large size have helped the Scorpio maintain good sales figures – not to mention it is also a damn good car that is highly reliable. This proves that trusted products that have proved their worth would continue to sell even in a market as volatile as the Indian car market. We are also happy to mention that a newer refreshed Scorpio with significant changes will be launched next year.
