Mahindra & Mahindra’s sports utility vehicle, the XUV 500, which was launched in South Africa on September 30, 2011, has received 200 bookings in the country.
M&M had launched the XUV 500 in India on September 29, 2011, a day prior to its launch in South Africa. Mr. Pravin Shah, M&M’s Chief Executive International Operations (Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors) told PTI, that the XUV 500 has been received positively in South Africa and it has already bagged a booking order of 200 vehicles from dealers. Through its subsidiary, Mahindra South Africa, the company took part in the Johannesburg International Motor show, where the company showcased the XUV 500. Commenting on the response generated by the XUV 500 at the Motor Show, Mr. Shah added, “Amidst a motor show filled with numerous international OEMs, the XUV500 got a lot of eye-balls and received an overwhelmingly good response.”
While the company launched the SUV in India at an introductory price between Rs. 10,80,000 and Rs. 11,95,000, the vehicle costs between Rs. 14,79,000 and Rs. 18,18,000 in South Africa.
