US automobile manufacturer Ford’s Indian arm has announced a recall of 1,28,000 units of the Figo hatchback and the Classic sedan to rectify steering and rear suspension problems. The recalled cars belong to the batches manufactured in the period January 2008-December 2010 and September 2010-February 2011.
According to a statement released by the company, a voluntary and pre-emptive Field Service Action (FSA) has been initiated from July 23, 2012 to rectify problems and check issues in the Power Steering Hose (PAS) and the Rear Twist Beam (RTB). The vehicles manufactured in the January 2008-December 2010 period will be checked for defects in the RTB and parts will be replaced if necessary.
The company stated that the RTB develops a crack and manifests as an abnormal noise in the rear of the car. The statement added that if the noise is ignored and the vehicle is continued to be driven, the RTB may break and result in reduced ride, handling and brake performance.
The vehicles manufacture in the September 2010-February 2011 period will have PAS Hose replacement as a precautionary measure.
