Ford India, the Indian subsidiary of the American automobile manufacturer has announced its decision to expand its manufacturing facility to ramp up its production to 3,30,000 units of engines annually. The company expects to bring down the waiting period for its diesel powered car models to three weeks.
The company’s production facility at Maraimalai Nagar until now had been producing 2,50,000 units annually. The expansion in the facility is part of an expansion drive announced by the automaker in 2011. The increase in production would result in lowering the current waiting period of three months to three weeks, stated Mr. Michael Boneham President and Managing Director Ford India.
The move is in response to the increase in demand for diesel cars and a significant shift from petrol cars to diesel cars with the frequent hikes in petrol price. The company has been witnessing 80 percent sales from the diesel cars and 20 percent sales in petrol cars.
