July saw the second Ferrari California Children’s Experience Day take place at Silverstone thanks to Ferrari North Europe, who once again joined forces with the British Racing Drivers’ Club and Silverstone Circuit to offer some of our industry’s most deserving children a very special day.
Because we are associated with an industry people often forget that our care extends to supporting children. Many of them are facing hardship, seriously ill themselves or are carers for seriously ill parents. As a consequence they often have to behave like grown ups and miss out on the care free childhood they deserve so being able to offer them one day they’ll never forget is a highlight for the team and a real privilege.
Thanks to our hosts generosity 20 very excited young people arrived at the track where they were all personally welcomed by Mike Brewer, who currently presents Wheeler Dealers on the Discovery Channel. They were then introduced to their chauffeurs who were professional drivers from the BRDC’s ‘SuperStars’ scheme, reigning BTCC champion and Fifth Gear front man Jason Plato and Pink Floyd drummer, Nick Mason. Each child was treated to a 15-minute passenger ride and whilst they eagerly awaited their turn they, and their families, were given unique access to the BRDC Clubhouse where a host of entertainment was provided. This included giant race track courtesy of Hot Wheels, the latest PS3 games and a performance by top children’s entertainers Smartie Artie.
A number of other famous faces, including journalist, presenter and Dancing on Ice runner up Donal MacIntyre; multi award winning sports presenter Steve Rider and CBeebies superstar Justin Fletcher, aka Mr Tumble came along to lend support.
To see the joy on the faces of these children and witness their gratitude was truly a humbling experience and we couldn’t be more grateful Ferrari, the BRDC and everybody who was involved in making this day so special for our very deserving children.
