Nissan India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Nissan is set to revive its low cost Datsun brand in the Indian car market in the first half of 2014 and is expecting it to contribute 50 percent of its total sales in India by the year 2016-17.
Speaking about Nissanβs Datsun plans for the Indian auto market, Mr. Kenichiro Yomura President Nissan India stated that the carmaker hopes to get half of its total sales in India from the Datsun brand and targets a 10 percent share in the passenger vehicle market by the year 2016-17. Nissan India currently has a share of more than 1 percent in the Indian automobile market.
The first car under the Datsun brand will be the Datsun Go compact car which will be priced under Rs 4,00,000. Mr. Yomura added that the automaker will be launching new products to create presence in new car segments. Also, the dealership network of the carmaker will be expanded to 300 outlets by the year 2016 from the current figure of 100.
