Car companies rid of dealers, sell cars directly online

Trying to cut down and costs and do business with their customers directly, many car manufacturers are now avoiding the dealer route by selling their cars directly online or in dedicated manufacturer stores. Electric car make Tesla for example will now only sell its newest car, the Model S, in its dedicated Tesla stores. This might not be the first time this has been done but for a fact this is something that is now a growing trend with many car makers. BMW has also recently opened up a specialized showroom in London where they will be selling their future electric cars, the i3 and i8 models. However, now BMW is considering selling these cars on the internet.  Many car manufacturers in India as well have opted for specialized showrooms such as Mahindra. It seems that car manufacturers are looking for ways to directly interact with their customers and break down the barrier in communication created by selling cars through a dealer. In India this could be a good thing, because most of the times many of us are exploited by dealers, however selling cars over the internet does not allow customers to get that hands on approach, which is still preferred by everyone. Until we get some virtual reality and 3D technology in to the picture, which by the way is already put in place by some car manufacturers in Europe, the Dealer route is still the best way to go.
