Bajaj Auto launched its first CNG operated motorcycle Freedom 125 in the Indian market earlier this year. Its ex-showroom price ranges from Rs 95,000 to Rs 1.10 lakh. This bike has also received a good response in the Indian market. In such a situation, now the company has started working on a two-wheeler series running on compressed biogas (CBG). Bajaj Auto CEO Rajiv Bajaj gave this information at the Amul Clean Fuel Bio CNG Car Rally in Pune.
Rajiv said, “His company brand is working on a series of two-wheelers that run on compressed biogas (CBG). CNG motorcycles are also suitable for CBG. The kind of work Amul is doing for the production of CBG is great for sustainability. If it is converted on a large scale, which is sure, vehicles will also run on CBG in the coming years.” Bajaj CEO is very excited about CBG-powered bikes. However, it will take at least 2 to 3 years for them to be launched.
According to the database available on the vehicle portal, Bajaj Auto has sold around 27,000 units of Freedom 125 CNG motorcycle in the Indian market so far. This bike has been launched on July 5 with a 2KG CNG tank and a 2 liter petrol tank. It is available in 3 variants Drum, Drum LED and Disc LED. At the time of launch of Freedom 125, Bajaj Auto claimed that it emits about 26.7% less CO2 than petrol. Let us tell you that Bajaj has a strong presence in the electric and CNG segments (both two-wheelers and three-wheelers). Both of these account for about 44 percent of the brand’s domestic revenue.
Amul MD Jayesh Mehta said that it is working together on the development of biogas for commercial purposes. Apart from this, the Gujarat-based milk cooperative has joined hands with Maruti Suzuki to set up a CBG (compressed biogas) plant to reduce dependence on CNG in the future. This initiative will greatly benefit the transport sector as the fuel cost will be further reduced.
