Audi India is looking to achieve a 50 per cent growth in sales in both 2009 and 2010. The company sold 1,050 cars in India 2008, and is aiming to sell 1,600 units in 2009. It currently trails BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the luxury car segment in the country, but is fast catching up.

As part of its growth strategy, Audi India will be launching a new model next year. It will also introduce an advanced version of an existing model. The company plans to start assembling more models in India to gain a competitive edge in the market. Mr Martin Birkner, the head of Audi India (Marketing), told media persons that the company would start assembling at least one or two more models in India by 2010. It currently assembles the A4 and the A6 here, while the remaining models are imported as Completely Built Units (CBU).
