German luxury automobile manufacturer Audi has plans to expand its production capacity at the Aurangabad facility in order to drive volume sales of its car models in the Indian market with an aim to grab the position of the top luxury carmaker in the Indian auto industry.

The assembly plant will be ramped up by 50 percent to produce 3,000 addition units bringing the total production up to 9,000 units. A new assembly hall will be set up in place at the facility which currently has one assembly line.

The company has also launched the next generation of the Audi A4 in the Indian market and expects the new launch to boost sales and contribute significantly to the target sales of 8,000 units in the fiscal 2012-13. It also plans to expand its dealership network in India from 18 to 25 in 2012 which would further increase its presence in the Indian automobile market.
