Audi India, the Indian subsidiary of the German auto manufacturer is planning to venture the armored car segment in India. The company’s Audi A8 L Security model showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012 featured resistance to bullets from AK-47s and hand grenade explosions. The first of the manufactured armored cars by Audi will be delivered in India by May-July 2012 at an approximate price of Rs. 5 crore.
Audi has already received a number of enquiries from the government and various corporate houses regarding the armored car and its availability in India. According to an industry source, the car model will be placed in a niche category and sold to select persons of high importance such as government officials and business heads. Moreover, the source added that any purchase deal regarding the car will be catered to directly by the security division of Audi.
The Audi A8 L Security is manufactured at an exclusive high-security production plant that ensures complete secrecy of the process. Owing to the use of premium strength enabled material such as high strength steel and special aluminium alloy, the car is able to prevent any damage from bombs.
The armored car segment already consists of premium luxury car makers Mercedes-Benz and BMW, both of which are also the closest rivals of Audi.
