Audi India, the Indian arm of the German luxury car manufacturer Audi has commenced the localized production of the Q7 sports utility vehicle in India at its manufacturing plant at Aurangabad. The carmaker is planning to manufacture 1,000 units of the SUV on an annual basis for the Indian car market.

The Q7 SUV follows the Audi A4, the A6 and the Q5 SUV which are already being produced locally. The next car planned for localized production by the carmaker is the Q3 SUV. Mr. Frank Dreves Audi Board Member for Production stated that the increase in localization activities is part of the company’s long-term growth strategy for India.

Mr. Michael Perschke Head Audi India stated that the localization of its car models would help reduce the waiting time for the customers as well as enable the company to develop and offer a wider range of versions for the Indian market.

Commenting on the company’s sales performance, Mr. Perschke stated that sales for the first 10 months in the fiscal 2012-13 are 55 percent higher than the record sales of last year.
