Tata Motors may start retailing Jaguar-Land Rover cars in India by April. Of the Jaguar range of models, plans are underway to first bring in the Jaguar XF as a CBU. Among Land Rover models, the Freelander should be the car that first becomes available in the country. To be sold as Completely Built Units (CBUs) initially, these vehicles may start being offered at Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units with time, which attract a duty of only 15 per cent. The Tatas may pick one of their existing dealers in every city to retail JLR models.
The Jaguar XF is expected to be priced at Rs. 40 lakh initially, including the duty. It will have the Mercedes E class and the BMW 5 series as competitors. Land Rover is already being distributed by an independent Mumbai dealer, Navnit Motors.
