German luxury car maker Audi has registered a threefold increase in sales in the year 2008. The company sold 1,050 cars in India in 2008, compared to 349 in the previous year. Even the last quarter of the year turned out to be a profitable one for the company, with sales growing by as much as 229 per cent in the period, from 83 units to 273 units. Audi tripled its dealership network in India in 2008. It also launched two new models – the Audi A4 and the super sports car Audi R8, both of which sold in good numbers. The Audi R8 stock for the year, in fact, was sold out even before it was officially launched. The company also held a number of promotional events to drive sales.
