German car makers Audi and Volkswagen announced price cuts on most of their models yesterday. The Audi A8 will now be cheaper by Rs. 2.79 lakh, the Q7 by Rs. 1.85 lakh, the A6 by Rs. 1.51 lakh and the A4 by Rs. 1.21 lakh. Volkswagen too has lowered the prices of its models, the Jetta and the Passat, by Rs. 45,194 to Rs. 57,814 and Rs. 74,193 to Rs. 80,859 respectively.

Almost all other auto companies in the country had announced price cuts to the tune of 2-4 per cent immediately after the announcement of the stimulus package in the first week of December. Audi and Volkswagen too have taken the step in response to the 4 per cent cut in CENVAT, passing the benefit to the consumer.
