Mercedes-Benz has launched the diesel version Mercedes C-Class C 220 CDI in India, after the petrol C 200 in November last year. This new diesel engine is available in two variants C 220 CDI Style at Rs. 39.90 lakhs and C 220 CDI Avantgarde Rs. 42.90 lakhs, (ex showroom Delhi) as a CBU while the locally manufactured C 200 AVANTGARDE petrol is available at Rs. 40.90 lakhs.

The C 220 CDI is powered by 2,143 cc in-line 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 170 bhp of power between 3,000-4,200 rpm along with 400 Nm of torque between 1,400-2,800rpm, mated to a 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.4 seconds with a top speed of 233 kmph and also company claim this engine most fuel efficient in the segment with a fuel efficiency of 19.27 km per litre. The engine has ECO start/stop function which helps in saving fuel and reducing emissions.
