According to reports, the Tata Nano might come to be used by the Mumbai Police as a patrol vehicle. The Mumbai Police has procured a Tata Nano car and is currently testing it to check its suitability as a pursuit vehicle.
According to a senior officer, the car is being considered as a petrol vehicle as its small size makes it feasible for travelling through the narrow crowded streets of Mumbai, apart from the ease of parking as the vehicle occupies lesser parking space. The car also provides advantage over motorcycle (which is currently being used as the standard patrol vehicle) as it can accommodate more people and its boot can be used to store weapons and communication equipment.
The Mumbai police stated that their plan to use the Tata Nano as a patrol vehicle is not yet concrete and a deal with the carmaker will be finalized only after the car has been tested to its limit for crucial jobs.
