Skoda recently unveiled the Skoda Citigo, the company’s own version of the recently unveiled Volkswagen Up! city car. The Skoda Citigo will join the company’s fleet of cars as the new entry-level model in Europe by the beginning of 2012. The Citigo will be part of a slew of new city cars which are collectively termed as ‘New Small Family’ by Skoda.
As witnessed in Volkswagen Up!, the Skoda Citigo is modeled on the three door hatch layout though Skoda will also offer the four-door Citigo. The car would measure 3563mm in length, 1641mm in width and 1478mm in height and would have a boost space of 251 litres, and 951 litres with its rear seats folded down. The car would have Volkwagen Up’s 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with two power outputs: 59bhp and 74bhp.
The car will sport Skoda’s new brake assistance system. Skoda’s Technical Chief, Mr. Eckhard Scholz stated the company might consider an electric version of the Citigo but the company needs to first learn about the technology.
Skoda will begin the production of Citigo in October 2011 at its Bratislava plant and the car will be launched in Czech Republic by the end of 2011 followed by its launch in the UK and Europe in early 2012.
