The new SUV Renault Duster which was launched in July 2012 by Renault India, the Indian arm of the French automobile manufacturer Renault has bagged the Indian Car of the Year Award for the year 2013.
Among the reasons attributed to the feat by the new SUV is the fact that Renault Duster features in the list of top 15 cars sold in India and has also contributed significantly to the sales of Renault India. The sales of the SUV have surpassed that of strong existing players such as the Scorpio and the XUV500 by Mahindra & Mahindra.
The magnitude of increase in sales of Renault India after the launch of the Duster SUV can be judged by the fact that prior to the launch, the company registered sales of 4,447 cars for the period of January to June 2012. After the launch on July 4, 2012, the company has registered sales of 24,786 cars during the period of July to November 2012. Out of these, 19,246 unit sales were contributed by the Duster.
